What you choose to include in your kit will vary, but here are a few staple items that should be included in every kit:
•A roll of toilet paper (self-explanatory).
•A roll of paper towels (to wipe up any spills during the move and for basic cleaning).
•A first-aid kit (e.g.: surgical tape, small pair of scissors, band-aids, peroxide, cotton swabs, sunscreen and tweezers).
•A pocket flashlight.
•One or two cleaning pails with rags and sponges.
•A broom, vacuum cleaner and mop.
•All-purpose cleaning products and glass cleaner to make windows and mirrors shine.
•Essential tools (hammer, screwdriver, pliers).
If you have the time, clean your old dwelling before you leave. The future tenants will appreciate your efforts.
You don’t need to spend hours cleaning every nook and cranny - just make sure the place is clean and inviting. Start by sweeping the floors once the apartment in empty, then take a clean damp cloth and wipe out all the cupboards and ensure the bathroom is spic and span. The new tenants will be smiling and you’ll be able to walk away from your old abode free from guilt and shame.
If you are planning to paint your new home, be sure to pack a box with all of your supplies (e.g.: paint brushes, protective coverings and sheets, masking tape and newspapers). This will save you time once you get down to the job and you’ll be able to focus on colour schemes.
